Hiring Local Domestic Helpers
Consulates and consular officers may hire Chinese service personnel (including translators, tutors, secretaries, nannies, chefs, chauffeurs, cleaners, gardeners, etc.) through the local foreign organization service institution. To hire such personnel, consulates and consular officers should sign a labor service contract with the said institution, and the contract should, at a minimum, provide for work hours, scope of duties, compensation, medical care, dismissal and vacation. Any dispute arising during the provision of services should be resolved in accordance with the contract.
Chinese nationals hired by consulates as office staff members should not act on behalf of the consulate under the titles given by the consulate (such titles include senior administrative assistant, cultural assistant, and commercial assistant).
Foreign nationals, other than consular officers, can only hire domestic helpers or personal service personnel via foreign-related intermediary labor service agencies affiliated with the Guangzhou Friendship Foreign Enterprise Service Corporation.
