First Private Finance Museum Opens
The China (Guangzhou) Private Finance Museum opened to the public on June 23 after more than six months of construction and staging.
The museum is the first one of its kind in China. It is located at 268 Changdi Dama Road, which was the site of the former Jincheng Bank in the Republic of China period. The entrance to the museum has been built in the style of the bank to create a sense of its former glory.
The exhibition at the museum consists of four sections featuring the origins of credit in ancient China, the development of private finance in China, the emergence and prosperity of private finance in Guangzhou, and the rise of the private finance street in Guangzhou. The show comprehensively chronicles China's history of private finance from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the pre-modern period. The exhibits include a wide variety of financial items, such as bankbooks, miniature manual account books, journal accounts, and Aiqun life insurance policies from the Republic of China period. The plaques bearing business mottos, the exchange calculator and the cash register from the Republic of China period have never been exhibited before.
Members of the public may visit the museum upon presentation of their national ID cards. Visitors have a chance to knock at a gigantic "lucky golden egg" with a "golden hammer". If the "vault" opens, the visitor will receive a model "gold bullion" as a souvenir.
