Record-breaking 40,692 international buyers have participated in the 109th Canton Fair on the first day. The number of attendants has totaled 44,849, up by 16.78% from the previous session. "In the past, there were about 30,000 buyers at most on the first day of the event. This year we have a more gratifying beginning", said an experienced Canton Fair staff.

Walking out of the shadow of the international economic and financial crisis, foreign trade in China still sees many uncertainties under the impact of the unstable international and domestic factors. As the "wind-vane of China's foreign trade", the 109th Canton Fair successfully attracts participants of a record high number on the opening day, which indicates that the recovery will possibly pick up pace. The most pressing matter of the moment is to take this opportunity and improve its competitiveness.

Up to now, the Canton Fair sees an increased number of buyers from the traditional market of Europe and America. By April 16, 6729 European buyers have attended the event, up by 6.44%. The number of American buyers has experienced a dramatic increase of 35% and has reached 7797. 664 Canadian buyers and 1542 buyers from the US have joined the Fair, up by 8.50% and 7.61% respectively.

It should also be noted that the number of Japanese buyers on the first day has slightly increased by 3% and has reached 651. Given to the political instability, 3995 Africa buyers attended the Fair on the first day, up by about 4% from the previous session.
